Tutoring Services can help students bild their DIGITAL PORTFOLIOS by teaching (1) how ot build BIG projects and (2) how to make a free website

A pitch to tutoring services
HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT THE
“No Grades” Transcript?
I wonder if the future of tutoring is to help students:
(1) build big projects that get academic credit in several subjects and
(2) display those projects on a website (safely and privately).

The website is a vehicle for showcasing the skills of the student.
The site is called a DIGITAL PORTFOLIO in High Tech High School.

Excellent BIG projects
www.TINYURL.com/SUNNHD from National History Day.

Examples of excellent portfolios for displaying projects
TINYURL.com/ExampleDP  a site built by a student at
High Tech High in California

TINYURL.com/AbelSite  a smaller portfolio, curated by a
student at High Tech High, showing three projects and an
essay with a video of his internship.  This site earned him a
full scholarship… at four colleges.

www.newtechhigh.org/portfolio has links to four portfolios by students.

THE FUTURE OF TUTORING = Introducing parents and teens
to the “no grades” transcript.
  1. Read the article from the Boston Globe to learn about
  2. Scott Looney’s idea:  tinyurl.com/NoGradesBostonCopy
  3. about the "no grades" transcript.
  4. See a 3-minute video about the No Grades transcript  TINYURL.com/noGradesVideo
  5. Someone will need to guide a teen toward the new way that students at 150 private schools are going....  and students at other schools might want to learn how to compete and get a "no grades" transcript to show their skills
PITCH:  Your tutors could used the Free Website Project (it is free) to introduce your
clients to the Portfolio process.  ManyPosters@gmail.com

Typing Cat for your typing speed -- can you type without looking at the keyboard?

http://thetypingcat.com/typing-speed-test

Many people post items on Facebook.   After 6 months, where are the posts?

In a blog, a post from 6 months ago can be found by searching the blog or by scrolling through the post headlines.

Here's what I posted on Facebook.  How will I find this post two years from now?   Sharing on Facebook gives as much attention as a snapchat post (which disappears)
I like the TYPING CAT.   I got number 24 and I'm better than 86% of other used.   hmmmm

If I was number 24 out of 100, I would be better than 76%   (24% wold be better than me)

If 24 out of 200, I wold be better than 88%    (12% were higher)

So I expect that the site had around 180 users, so 14% were better than me

I recommend TYPING CAT  http://thetypingcat.com/typing-speed-test  for the speed test.  Students can know their words per minute
